The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, recently met with the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, at the Parliamentary premises.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Jha extended New Year wishes to Speaker Wickramaratne and emphasized the enduring bilateral relationship between India and Sri Lanka. He also invited the Speaker to visit India officially to further inter-parliamentary cooperation, according to a statement from the Parliamentary Communications Department.

The High Commissioner highlighted India’s plans to support Sri Lanka’s Parliament through training and capacity-building programs for newly elected Members and Parliamentary staff. Additionally, he expressed hope for the Speaker’s assistance in reviving the Sri Lanka-India Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament.

High Commissioner Jha also underscored the importance of fostering collaboration between women parliamentarians from both countries to enhance their role in policymaking.

Speaker Dr. Wickramaratne thanked India for its continued support across various sectors, reflecting on the historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

Their discussions covered key topics such as economic development, digitalization, and regional cooperation. The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present during the meeting.
