Today, January 9, 2025, the highly anticipated 2025 Appropriation Bill is scheduled to be presented in Parliament. This draft bill will undergo its second reading on February 17, with the debate slated to take place from February 18 to February 25. Following the debate, the vote on the second reading is set for the evening of February 25.

The bill will then move to the Committee Stage Debate, also referred to as the Third Reading Debate, which will be held from February 27 to March 21, with the final vote on the third reading scheduled for the evening of March 21.

Alongside the Appropriation Bill, the Local Government Elections (Special Provisions) Bill will also be introduced today. The bill, which proposes calling for new nominations for the Local Government Elections, was submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government and recently published in the Gazette. If passed, the bill will empower the Election Commission to initiate fresh nominations for the upcoming local government elections.

Both bills are set to play a crucial role in the upcoming legislative and electoral processes, marking a significant step in the country's political and administrative developments.
