Japan to Resume Key Projects in Sri Lanka

The Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Isomata Akio, announced ongoing discussions with the Sri Lankan government to restart temporarily halted development projects.

During a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, on January 6, Ambassador Akio emphasized Japan’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing ties with Sri Lanka. Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, also attended the meeting.

The ambassador conveyed his best wishes to the Speaker and the government, pledging Japan’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s development. 

Furthermore, he said that discussions are underway with the government to restart projects that are currently temporarily halted in Sri Lanka. The Japanese ambassador also said that he hopes to expedite the construction of the new terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport. During the meeting the government’s efforts to eradicate corruption and foster national reconciliation were commended.

Speaker Wickramaratne thanked Japan for its consistent support and highlighted several Japanese-funded projects that have benefited Sri Lankans. He also shared plans to revive the Sri Lanka-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association in the current Parliament to strengthen ties further.

The Speaker reiterated his commitment to deepening bilateral relations, expressing confidence in Japan’s continued assistance to Sri Lanka.
