The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has warned the public not to share personal details in response to fake text messages circulating on social media.
The TRCSL reports receiving numerous complaints about fraudulent messages falsely claiming that the President will provide financial aid of Rs. 50,000 to poor families.
Director of TRCSL, Mrs. H.P.M. Pathirana, urged the public to avoid clicking on these deceptive links. “These fake SMS messages are spreading quickly on social media. Do not share your personal information in response to these messages,” she stated.
The TRCSL has taken steps to block the fraudulent links. However, Mrs. Pathirana warned that sharing personal details could result in unauthorized access to bank accounts, leading to severe financial issues. She advised everyone to stay vigilant and refrain from engaging with such scams.
