In the early hours of today January 7, four international flights were diverted from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake due to dense fog that drastically reduced visibility.

Three SriLankan Airlines flights were among those affected, including UL-226 from Dubai, UL-881 from Guangzhou, China, and UL-174 from Bangalore, India.

These flights were redirected to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport for refueling but did not disembark passengers.

By 9:00 a.m., the fog had cleared, and all diverted flights safely returned to BIA, resuming their scheduled operations. Passengers and airline crews experienced minimal disruption as air traffic operations gradually resumed to normal.
