The government has announced plans to start purchasing paddy from the third week of January, according to Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda.

The PMB aims to buy around 300,000 metric tonnes of paddy, and Pinnalanda confirmed that sufficient funds are available, with allocations to be made soon.

He added that the paddy acquired will be stored as part of the government’s reserves and will only be released to the market if there is a rice shortage.
