The Sri Lanka Health Promotion Bureau has clarified concerns about reports of rising respiratory illnesses in northern China, particularly among children.

According to Chinese health authorities, the cases are caused by common viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and human metapneumovirus (hMPV). No new or unusual pathogens have been detected.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the situation is consistent with global patterns and is not unexpected. Chinese officials have assured that the current wave is less severe than in previous years, and hospitals are managing the cases effectively.

The Sri Lanka Health Promotion Bureau has pointed out three main updates regarding the situation as follows, the rise in illnesses in China is due to common respiratory viruses, no new or unusual pathogens have been found and the situation poses no public health risk to Sri Lanka at this time.

Health authorities emphasize that there is no cause for concern locally. They are closely monitoring global health developments to ensure public safety.
