Australia booked their place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final after defeating India 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The series concluded at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) today (January 5) with Australia winning the final Test by six wickets.

This victory not only confirmed Australia’s spot in the final against South Africa but also ended India’s hopes of qualifying. Sri Lanka, too, lost their slim chance of making it to the final.

Sri Lanka’s only route to the WTC final depended on India drawing the final Test and Sri Lanka winning their upcoming 2-0 series against Australia, starting January 29 in Galle. With India’s elimination, the final lineup is now confirmed as Australia vs South Africa for the final, which will be hosted by Lord's Cricket Ground in London starting on June 11, 2025.
