New Zealand Wins First ODI against Sri Lanka by 9 Wickets

New Zealand claimed a dominant 9-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI at the Basin Reserve International Cricket Ground.

After winning the toss, New Zealand elected to bowl first and bowled Sri Lanka out for 178 in 43.4 overs. Avishka Fernando was the only significant performer for Sri Lanka, scoring 56 runs and New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack was led by Matt Henry.

In response, New Zealand comfortably chased the target, finishing at 180/1 in just 26.2 overs. Will Young remained unbeaten with 90 runs, while Rachin Ravindra provided solid support with 45 runs. New Zealand leads the series 1-0 two matches remaining.
