The funeral of the late Dr. J. R. P. Suriyapperuma, a prominent figure in Sri Lanka's intellectual and political spheres, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, January 5, at the Borella Public Cemetery.
Dr. Suriyapperuma, aged 96, passed away on January 2 after a prolonged illness. His body has been placed in a private funeral parlor in Borella for public viewing.
Known for his contributions to the nation's intellectual development, Dr. Suriyapperuma dedicated his life to sharing knowledge through various media, including television programs, academic discussions, and debates in newspapers, radio, and television.
His involvement in political, economic, and academic dialogues earned him respect as a revered voice in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Suriyapperuma entered politics as a member of the United People's Freedom Alliance and was born on June 8, 1928. His death marks the loss of a respected scholar and political figure.
