Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has instructed all police stations nationwide to conduct special traffic operations across every police division starting January 2.

These operations aim to improve traffic control, ensure safety, and protect passengers and drivers on the roads.

The initiative is part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ project under the government’s policy, ‘A Thriving Nation - A Beautiful Life.’

Police will focus on vehicles with illegal modifications, various horns, additional flashing lights of different colors, loud horns, loud silencers, and additional parts that increase accident risks.

Each police division will conduct two three-hour operations daily.

The Acting IGP also emphasized treating passengers respectfully during inspections of public transport, ensuring minimal inconvenience.
