Sarath Fonseka denies Threat to Rajapaksa's Life
Fonseka questioned why no assassination attempts were made against Rajapaksa, despite the war’s violence.
He claimed that Rajapaksa’s 2005 manifesto called for peace talks with LTTE leader Prabhakaran, which, according to him, helped maintain the LTTE’s support. He also alleged that Rajapaksa’s ceasefire decision Just before the war ended allowed Prabhakaran and other leaders to escape, further suggesting that the LTTE would never target him.
Field Marshal also highlighted his own security issues, noting that his security detail was removed in 2010 after the Presidential election. He added that during his prison sentence, he was housed with LTTE members and received no special protection.
Regarding rumors of a planned drone attack against Rajapaksa, Fonseka dismissed the idea, saying such expensive measures were unnecessary and unlikely. He suggested that 17 police officers are enough for his own security and 30 officers team would suffice for Rajapaksa.
