The water level in the Rajanganaya Reservoir has risen significantly due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, prompting the opening of 8 out of the 32 spill gates
Irrigation Engineer Sampath Samarajeewa confirmed that the water flow from the opened spill gates is releasing 12,300 cubic feet per second into Kala Oya.
The engineer in charge of the reservoir has issued a warning to residents living in the lower valley areas, urging them to remain vigilant as the water discharge may lead to potential flooding or changes in water levels in the surrounding areas.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and further updates will be provided if necessary. People in affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
