The public has been strongly advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight due to the current hot weather conditions in Sri Lanka, according to the Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. G. Wijesuriya.
Dr. Wijesuriya emphasized that children and elders are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses and should stay indoors during peak sunlight hours. He also stressed the importance of staying hydrated to prevent dehydration, recommending that everyone increase their intake of fluids throughout the day.
Those engaging in outdoor activities are advised to take extra precautions by drinking sufficient water, wearing protective clothing, and taking regular breaks to avoid overexertion.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to take these precautions seriously to minimize health risks during this period of intense heat.
