The Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation announced that the first consignment of rice ordered by the government arrived in the country yesterday (December 28).
Chairman Ravindra Fernando confirmed that 780 metric tons of rice from this shipment will be distributed through Sathosa outlets to ensure availability and stabilize prices.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs has cleared 75,000 metric tons of imported rice as of this morning (December 29), following the government’s decision to allow rice imports without permits for private sector importers.
