The Department of Railways has observed that a shortage of train engines is the primary cause of ongoing delays and cancellations.
A spokesperson of Department of Railways explained that only 50 engines are currently operational, while at least 60 are required for smooth operations. Ideally, 70 engines would eliminate service disruptions altogether. However, many of the available engines are overburdened, leading to frequent technical issues.
The department also faced a shortage of spare parts for repairs, although they have recently received the necessary components to begin fixing the engines. Efforts are underway to address the problem and improve train services.
Additionally, the department reported that some engines have become unusable due to long periods of inactivity, further contributing to the shortage.
