In the first T20 International at Bay Oval, New Zealand secured a narrow 8-run victory against Sri Lanka.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to field first. New Zealand set a target of 172/8 in their 20 overs. Despite a strong start by Sri Lanka with a 121-run opening partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, the team suffered a dramatic collapse following Mendis’ dismissal.

Sri Lanka finished their innings at 164/8, falling just short of the target.
