Chairman of Lanka Sathosa Ltd, Dr. Samitha Perera, stated that 300 metric tons of rice are being released daily to the market through Sathosa outlets.

The rice is being sold at government-controlled prices to ensure affordability for the public.

Dr. Perera also acknowledged the challenges of implementing emergency rice import plans while safeguarding the interests of local farmers. Lanka Sathosa remains committed to balancing consumer needs and farmer protection.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs has confirmed the arrival of 72,000 metric tons of rice imported by private traders since December 4.

According to Customs Spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda, by far 30,000 metric tons of raw rice and 42,000 metric tons of Nadu rice have been released to the local market successfully.
