The Southern Provincial Office of the Department of Archaeology has announced that the old gate leading into the Galle Fort Wall will be temporarily closed for four days, from today (28th December) to 31st December.

This closure is due to ongoing chemical conservation work on the wall surrounding the old gatehouse, which is part of the World Heritage Galle Fort, an important archaeological monument.

During this period, the Department of Archaeology advises visitors that entry and exit to the Galle Fort will be redirected through the new Fort entrance. The conservation project is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the historic site for future generations.

Authorities have urged the public to plan accordingly and use the new entrance while the old gate remains closed for the duration of the project.
