The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) has reported that over 79,500 acres of farmland were damaged during the last floods, which occurred during the 2024/25 Maha cultivation season.

AAIB Chairperson Pemasiri Jasin Arachchi stated that assessments conducted in collaboration with the Agrarian Development Department and farmers’ organizations revealed the extent of the damage. Affected farmers will be compensated once the damage evaluations and final recommendations are completed.

Damage assessments in the Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar districts have already been finalized, with compensation to be provided after the final reports are reviewed. Assessments in Batticaloa, Ampara, and Trincomalee are set to conclude by December 29, while evaluations in Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Matale are expected to finish by December 30.

The AAIB is working closely with agrarian organizations and the Department of Agrarian Development to ensure an accurate and fair assessment process for all affected farmers.

The Board emphasized that these assessments are being conducted with the support of the Department of Agrarian Development and local agrarian organizations to ensure accurate reporting and fair compensation for affected farmers.
