In a significant move to ensure public order across the country, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an extraordinary gazette notification calling upon the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force to be on standby for deployment in all administrative districts of the island. The notification, signed by the President on December 26, takes effect from today, December 27.

The decision was made in accordance with the powers granted to the President under Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance. This step is seen as a response to escalating security concerns, as the government seeks to restore and maintain public order amid ongoing disturbances.

The gazette order instructs all members of the armed forces to be available for active service, marking a significant intervention to address the current situation. The deployment is intended to support law enforcement agencies and ensure the safety and security of citizens in all regions.

The President's action underscores the government's commitment to preserving peace and preventing further unrest. Authorities have assured the public that necessary measures will be taken to uphold stability during this critical period.
