SLNS Sayura returns on successful completion of SLINEX - 24
The annual bilateral exercise SLINEX was successfully held at the Naval Dockyard of Visakhapatnam, India and in the eastern waters from 16th to 20th December 2024.
SLINEX is a significant series of bilateral naval exercises that have strengthened maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka over the years. In this year’s exercise, the Sri Lanka Navy was represented by SLNS Sayura, while INS Sumitra, a Chetak helicopter and a Sea King helicopter joined from the Indian Navy.
The Harbour Phase of the exercise was held at the Naval Dockyard of Visakhapatnam on 16th and 18th December. During this phase, participants engaged in professional and social exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding.
The Sea Phase of SLINEX was conducted on 19th and 20th December in the eastern waters of Bay of Bengal, where gunnery exercises, manoeuvring exercises, replenishment at sea (RAS), visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) exercises, photo exercises (PHOTOEX) and Special Forces operations including slithering were demonstrated.
SLINEX was a great opportunity for both navies to enhance mutual understanding in bilateral naval operations and exchange best practices and procedures. Besides, such engagements will greatly assist when overcoming common maritime security challenges in the region.
