Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has reportedly received death threats from ISIS and LTTE groups, according to Manoj Gamage, Vice President of the SLPP Lawyers' Association.

He stated that on December 23, the Ministry of Public Security withdrew military officers assigned to Rajapaksa’s security detail, leaving only police officers for his protection.

Referring to a report submitted to the Presidential Security Committee by Superintendent of Police M.S.D. Wickramasinghe on October 10, 2024, he highlighted intelligence findings of a possible drone bomb attack by ISIS and additional threats from LTTE and underworld groups.

He criticized the replacement of experienced military personnel with police officers, calling it inadequate given the serious threats against the former President.
