Sri Lanka will celebrate a major achievement in its tourism industry as the country prepares to welcome its two millionth tourist for 2024 on December 26 at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The event will be hosted through the Silk Route, as a reflection of the success of the nation’s tourism promotion efforts.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotional Bureau has planned a special ceremony to commemorate this milestone. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s weekly report, 2,901,988 tourists had visited the country by December 15, 2024.

India topped the list with 385,267 arrivals, followed by Russia with 180,414 visitors, and the UK in third place with 166,999 tourists.

This achievement highlights Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a global travel destination.
