The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement 33 development projects in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, with a total funding of Rs. 2,371 million.
The projects are aimed at improving key areas such as education, health, agriculture, irrigation, tourism, and community empowerment.
Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayathissa explained that the funding will be allocated as follows: Rs. 315 million for education, Rs. 780 million for health, Rs. 620 million for agriculture, and Rs. 230 million for fisheries.
The initiative is part of strengthening socio-economic development and enhancing bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and India. These projects are designed to improve infrastructure, promote economic growth, and empower local communities in the Eastern Province. The Indian government will provide the necessary funding to proceed with the agreement finalized.
