Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayathissa has clarified that government members are not restricted from speaking to the media.
Responding to a question about claims that the Minister of Justice declined an interview due to needing party permission, Jayathissa said, “There is no ban on any of our MPs. They are free to express their opinions. However, I believe the process should be streamlined.”
He highlighted that a weekly Cabinet media briefing is held to discuss decisions, allowing journalists to ask questions.
“We follow a procedure. I communicate Cabinet decisions here, and Ministers share updates through their ministries, as they should,” he explained. He added that any difficulties in granting interviews are due to time constraints, not imposed restrictions.
