He announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed next month to formalize the partnership.
The project, inspired by India’s successful Aadhaar card system, aims to improve access to government services, such as direct payments to Aswesuma beneficiaries, while reducing corruption.
“This initiative will benefit millions by streamlining services and ensuring transparency,” said Minister Herath.
Led by Sri Lanka’s Digital Economic Affairs Ministry and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), the project will be carried out with India’s support. An Indian delegation is expected to visit Sri Lanka next month to begin the process.
