The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is likely to contest the upcoming local government elections independently, party sources revealed.

The party is considering collaboration only with the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, a key ally in its alliance.

This decision was discussed at a recent meeting of the SLPP’s political board and executive council. While most members supported running independently, some noted that the strategy could change based on future developments.

The meeting also debated the possibility of re-admitting former members who left the party during the general election. Although many supported this move, some members opposed it.
