The Police has announced a nationwide special traffic operation starting tomorrow (December 23) to reduce road accidents involving passenger buses and other vehicles. This initiative, directed by the Acting Inspector General of Police, will continue through the festive season.
The operation will focus on inspecting public passenger buses, checking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, excessive speeding, violating traffic rules, and technical defects like unsuitable tires. Traffic officers will also monitor other vehicle types through 24-hour surveillance across the island.
The public is encouraged to report unsafe driving via hotlines 119 and 1997 or submit video evidence of violations through WhatsApp. The Police Media Division assured that legal actions would be taken based on the reports received.
