The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation has assured farmers that the donated Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer from a Russian state-owned company meets all quality standards.

Concerns were raised by farmer organizations and farmers about the color of the fertilizer, but the ministry clarified that its functionality is unaffected. The color difference is due to mineral salts in the fertilizer’s source. Red-colored fertilizer contains iron oxide, while white fertilizer lacks it, though both provide the same potassium content.

This confirmation is backed by soil scientist Renuka de Silva, whose analysis verified the fertilizer’s safety and effectiveness. The Ministry has encouraged farmers to use the fertilizer without hesitation.
