A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team visited Parliament yesterday (December 20) to record statements from three officials, including the Assistant Secretary General of Parliament, regarding the incorrect use of the title "Dr." before Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara's name.

The issue arose after Minister Nanayakkara filed a complaint with the CID, clarifying that he had never held a doctorate. He alleged that the false entry could have been deliberate, aimed at damaging his reputation or undermining public trust in his political career.

The CID has launched an investigation to determine how the error occurred and to identify those responsible. As part of the probe, statements were taken from parliamentary staff involved in the matter.

The controversy began when the Parliament website incorrectly listed the Minister as “Dr. Harshana Nanayakkara.” The error was corrected following the Minister’s complaint, and the Parliamentary Secretariat issued a letter acknowledging the mistake.
