US Ambassador meets with Public Security Minister

The American Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, met with Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, and Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala at the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs in Battaramulla on Thursday. The discussion centered around enhancing diplomatic relations between the United States and Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Chung expressed America's commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s future development and its aspirations to become a developed nation. She highlighted the United States’ readiness to offer assistance to Sri Lanka's development activities, emphasizing the importance of a stable and prosperous future for the island nation.

During the meeting, Ambassador Chung commended the Sri Lankan government's efforts to establish law and order without political interference. She also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in combating drug trafficking, underworld activities, and bolstering cyber security. The U.S. offered to provide technical expertise and cooperation in ensuring the safety of the country’s cyberspace.

The discussion was attended by Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, and Ministerial Secretary Ravi Seneviratne, who all welcomed the Ambassador and engaged in the talks to further strengthen Sri Lanka-U.S. ties.
