The Meteorology Department says several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts during the evening or night.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Eastern provinces during the morning.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:

Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambanthota. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds:

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly in the sea areas around the island and speed will be (20-30) kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to (45-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
