Prem Thakkar, Indian National, the owner of the Galle Marvels team in the Lanka T10 Super League, has been released on bail today ( December 20) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate, following his arrest over match-fixing allegations.
Thakkar was granted bail with a cash payment of Rs. 500,000 and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each.
He was arrested on December 12 by Sri Lanka’s Sports Police Unit after a West Indian player alleged that Thakkar had approached them with a suspicious offer linked to match-fixing.
The court also issued an overseas travel ban on Thakkar and directed him to report to the Special Investigation Unit for Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports every Wednesday.
The case has been scheduled for its next hearing on January 27, 2025.
Following the complaint, authorities launched an investigation into the incident, which raised questions about the integrity of the inaugural Lanka T10 tournament.
