A high-level delegation representing the government of the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China (CPC) met with JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatta.

The delegation included Yuan Ruidong, Counselor of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Zheng Youya, Deputy Director of the IDCPC 1 Bureau, and several other prominent figures, including educators, officials, and vocational training experts from China.

The meeting focused on enhancing the relationship between the Chinese Communist Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), particularly in sharing experiences and technical knowledge. The Chinese delegation congratulated the JVP-led National People’s Power on their recent political successes and expressed their interest in further collaboration.

Key topics discussed included Sri Lanka’s government-led initiatives such as digitization, Clean Sri Lanka, and rural poverty eradication programs. The Chinese side offered to share their extensive experience in these areas, as well as the possibility of providing technical training and facilitating knowledge exchange.

This would include sending Sri Lankan trainees to China for vocational education, with particular emphasis on agriculture, industrial sectors, and environmental protection.

Additionally, the Chinese delegation proposed cooperation on boosting Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, leveraging China’s technological expertise in areas such as food preservation and fishing industry development. They also discussed the potential for collaboration in sugar production and vehicle repair training.

Sri Lankan officials present at the meeting included Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumar Gamage, Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, along with legal experts Janaka Adhikari and Madhu Kalpana.
