Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage has issued open warrants for the immediate arrest of former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran and Perpetual Treasuries Limited Director Ajahn Gardiya Punchihewa in connection with the infamous Central Bank bond scam that occurred on February 27, 2015.

The warrants were issued after both suspects failed to appear in court despite being served with prior notices to attend. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed charges against a total of six suspects, alleging that their involvement in bond transactions caused a loss exceeding Rs. 600 million to the government.

In addition, the Magistrate ordered prison authorities to ensure the presence of Arjun Aloysius, another key suspect in the case, at the next court hearing. The case continues to draw significant attention as authorities seek justice for the financial damage caused by the bond scam.

The bond scam case has been a significant legal and political issue in Sri Lanka, with investigations ongoing into the role of various individuals and entities in the controversial transactions.
