A Supplementary Estimate to provide a monthly allowance for school children was passed in Parliament today ( December 18) without a vote.

The debate on the proposal took place over two days before receiving approval.

The government plans to implement this initiative starting in 2025 to mitigate the impact of economic challenges on the education of vulnerable school children. Under the program, an allowance of Rs. 6,000 per child will be provided to children aged between five and sixteen.

The measure is part of a broader effort to support students’ educational needs and ensure access to resources amidst ongoing economic difficulties.
