Sajith Presents his Academic Certificates in Parliament
The minister had earlier ( December 17) questioned Premadasa’s educational background, including his time at the London School of Economics (LSE).
Premadasa outlined his academic journey, beginning with primary education at St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo, before attending St. Thomas’ Preparatory and later Royal College. He clarified that he did not sit for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination in Sri Lanka, as he left the country after Grade 9.
The Opposition Leader detailed his subsequent education in the UK, where he completed his Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations.
He refuted claims that he failed his Ordinary Levels, presenting documents to validate his UK qualifications.
Premadasa also displayed his graduation certificate from LSE, where he earned his degree. Additionally, he revealed holding a Master’s Degree in Public Management from the University of Maryland, USA, and noted pursuing studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka, where Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya was a lecturer.
This debate over MPs’ qualifications follows recent controversies about government officials’ academic credentials, including the resignation of the first Speaker of the new Parliament, Asoka Ranwala.
