Sri Lanka's economy recorded a year-on-year GDP growth rate of 5.5% in the third quarter of 2024, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

The country's GDP at constant prices (2015) rose to Rs. 3,151,941 million, up from Rs. 2,987,544 million in the same period of 2023, indicating a steady economic recovery.

The report highlighted growth across key sectors. Agricultural activities expanded by 3.0%, contributing to the resilience of the rural economy. Industrial activities saw significant growth of 10.8%, driven by increased production and investment in the manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, the services sector, which remains the largest contributor to the GDP, recorded a growth rate of 2.6%, reflecting improvements in tourism, trade, and financial services.
