Mr. Moonamale Assumes Office as DG of the Central Environmental Authority

Mr. Padmasiri Moonamale officially assumed duties as the new Director General of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) yesterday. With a postgraduate degree in Environmental Management from the University of Peradeniya,

Mr. Moonamale brings nearly 29 years of experience in the field of environmental management. His career spans both public and private institutions, as well as local and international environmental projects.

During his tenure, Mr. Moonamale has worked diligently in the environmental sector since 1995, contributing to various initiatives aimed at improving the country’s environmental management and sustainability efforts.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the CEA, was attended by Chairman Professor Thilak Hewawasam, along with Deputy Directors General and other officials of the authority.

In his address to the staff, Mr. Moonamale expressed his gratitude and sense of responsibility for being appointed to lead the CEA. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the country’s environmental regulation and conservation efforts, and he looks forward to collaborating with the Chairman and other officials to enhance the Authority's operations.

"The need for environmental conservation is a matter that requires collective responsibility," said Mr. Moonamale. "It is crucial to raise awareness among all citizens, and with the support of all stakeholders, we can ensure the future of our environment."

Mr. Moonamale's appointment marks a new chapter for the CEA as it continues its mission to regulate and promote environmental sustainability in Sri Lanka.
