National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) Jagath Wickremeratne has been unanimously appointed as the new Speaker of Sri Lanka's Parliament.
The announcement came following the commencement of today’s parliamentary session, with Wickremeratne being nominated by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The nomination was seconded by the Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, and received the unanimous support of the Members of Parliament.
