In response to increased rainfall, the spill gates of several reservoirs have been opened, prompting concerns over potential flooding in surrounding areas.
The Rajanganaya Reservoir has opened four of its spill gates, releasing a substantial water flow of 73,505 cubic feet per second. Meanwhile, two spill gates at the Mahakanadara Reservoir have also been opened, marking the beginning of water discharge into the nearby Malwatta Oya.
Authorities have issued a warning to residents in low-lying areas near these rivers to remain vigilant, as the heavy water flow could lead to flooding. The Mahakanadara-Rambawa road has already been submerged due to the increased water levels.
Local officials urge people to take necessary precautions and avoid travel in flood-prone areas. Emergency services are on high alert as the situation continues to develop.
