Three Railway Officials Suspended After Train Collision at Beliatta Station
Three railway officials have been suspended following a collision between the engines of the Rajarata Queen and Sagarika trains at Beliatta Railway Station on December 15. The incident occurred early in the morning when the Rajarata Queen train, scheduled to travel from Beliatta to Anuradhapura, collided with the Sagarika train, which was parked at the station.
The Sagarika train was stationary as its engine was being changed after running on the wrong track. The Railway Department has launched a special investigation into the cause of the collision and the circumstances surrounding the operation of both trains at the station.
In light of the incident, the Railway Department announced the suspension of three employees involved in the incident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter to determine the exact cause and any lapses in procedures.
