The All Ceylon Egg Traders' Association has announced a substantial reduction in egg prices ahead of the festive season.

Retail prices have been set between Rs. 30 and 35, offering relief to consumers after a period of high costs.

According to Anton Appuhami, President of the association, smaller eggs weighing under 50 grams will now be sold for Rs. 30-32, while larger eggs weighing over 55 grams will be priced between Rs. 33 and 35.

“We request all retailers to ensure eggs are sold at no more than Rs. 35 starting today,” Appuhami said, highlighting the association’s efforts to maintain affordability during this period.

This price reduction comes after last year’s festive season, when egg prices skyrocketed to Rs. 65-70 per egg. The decline is attributed to increased production leading to a surplus in the market, which has stabilized prices.

“Today, we have a surplus of eggs from farmers, ensuring sufficient supply to meet demand,” Appuhami explained, urging consumers to avoid paying prices above the recommended rates.
