Reverend Anthonypillai Appointed New Bishop of Mannar

This appointment follows the Pope’s acceptance of Bishop Fidelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando’s resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mannar.

Rev. Anthonypillai has been a devoted member of the Mannar Diocese since his ordination on April 7, 1994. Born on July 12, 1965, in Adampan, Mannar, he pursued philosophy and theology studies at Saint Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Jaffna.

Over his 30-year service, he has held various roles, including:

    •    Parish vicar of Murunkan (1994-1996)

    •    Secretary to the bishop (1996-1999)

    •    Parish priest in Cheddikulam, Pallimunai, Vankalai, and Pesalai

    •    Rector of the diocesan minor seminary (2014-2018)

    •    Parish priest of Saint Sebastian Cathedral (2018-2021)

Rev. Anthonypillai also earned a licentiate in religious education from Fordham University, New York (2010-2014) and attended a youth pastoral care course in India in 2022. Since 2023, he has served as administrator of the Our Lady of Madhu National Shrine.
