The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has intensified its island-wide raids to monitor rice traders and stock levels.
According to CAA Director Asela Bandara, around 75 raids were conducted yesterday (December 13) across the country. He further stated that officers have been directed to continue these operations during weekends and public holidays to ensure compliance.
He noted that with the arrival of imported rice stocks in the market, both rice and paddy prices are declining in some areas.
Additionally, the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has arranged to import 52,000 metric tons of ‘Nadu’ rice. The first shipment, comprising 5,200 metric tons, is expected to reach Sri Lanka on December 19.
This effort aims to stabilize the market and address shortages as the festive season approaches.
