Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, announced that the government will provide full compensation of Rs. 100,000 to farmers whose crops were destroyed by recent adverse weather conditions.

Speaking to the media, Karunaratne stated that assessments are underway to determine the extent of damaged farmland and the number of affected families. He assured that the government is committed to fulfilling its responsibility to compensate farmers.

Farmers can also seek assistance from local government bodies to prepare their land for cultivation. The Deputy Minister highlighted that many paddy fields are covered with one to two feet of sand, requiring machinery to restore the land. He emphasized that the restoration process will be coordinated with relevant government institutions.

Karunaratne further instructed officials to act with understanding and avoid strictly adhering to circulars while assisting farmers in preparing their land for cultivation
