The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department has issued a warning advising fishermen and those engaged in navigation to refrain from activities in the sea areas off the coasts of Rewal, Puttalam, Mannar, Kankesanthurai, and Mullaitivu due to increasingly rough conditions. A low-pressure system developing in the Bay of Bengal is causing heightened risks in these regions.
According to the department, the sea is expected to become extremely rough, and strong winds along with heavy rains exceeding 75 mm are possible over many areas. The low-pressure system is forecasted to move towards the Tamil Nadu coast, passing near the northern coast of Sri Lanka within the next 24 hours.
Authorities have urged that all fishing and navigation activities in both deep and shallow waters be suspended in the affected regions to ensure the safety of the public. Fishermen and mariners are advised to remain on alert and avoid venturing into these waters until conditions improve.
