Government Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has dismissed claims made by certain agencies through advertisements suggesting that all types of vehicles will soon be permitted for import into Sri Lanka.

Deputy Finance Minister Prof. Anil Jayantha Fernando, speaking at a press conference prior to the last cabinet briefing, outlined the government’s stance on vehicle imports. He stated that cabinet decisions had been made to permit vehicle imports under specific restrictions, Minister Jayatissa clarified.
Government Spokesman urged agencies not to mislead the public with advertisements suggesting unrestricted vehicle imports. He stressed that decisions on vehicle imports are made with careful consideration of the country’s economic reserves and stability.
“We will not make decisions that could place additional pressure on the economy,” he emphasized.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation about relaxed import restrictions in Sri Lanka.
