Dr. D. Nandadeva of Sri Lanka has been selected as an expert for the prestigious Evaluation Body of UNESCO's 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). His appointment was officially announced during the 19th Session of the ICH Committee, held in Asuncion Paraguay.

A renowned academic with over four decades of experience in cultural heritage, Dr. Nandadeva brings extensive knowledge to the Evaluation Body. With a deep understanding of the operations of the ICH Intergovernmental Committee and the intricate nomination process for heritage inscriptions, his expertise will be invaluable in preserving global intangible cultural heritage.

Dr. Nandadeva’s term will extend up to four years, during which he will contribute to the evaluation of nominations for ICH listings. The Evaluation Body, comprising 12 members, includes six experts nominated by states and six representatives from accredited NGOs, ensuring a well-rounded global and sectoral representation. This body plays a critical role in assessing and safeguarding the world’s intangible cultural treasures.
